Silanes for surface modification are silanes that do not contain organic reactive groups. This class of silanes will bond to a variety of substrates through the reactive silicon end of molecule leaving the non-organic reactive part of the silane to perform a variety of functions. The organic groups are used for rendering a surface more water repellent, or make the surface more compatible with a coating, or to allow a filler to be more easily mixed into a formulation. The variety of Shin-Etsu silanes available will allow you to tailor your surface to meet your exact requirements.
